Russia unhappy with US response on NATO enlargement

Russia is unhappy by the section of the US response over current tension in Ukraine which says that the US and NATO will never tolerate Russia’s demands for the alliance to suspend enlargement to Eastern Europe.

Russian FM Sergey Lavrov said on Thursday that the US response to Russia's proposals on security guarantees ‘lacks a positive reaction’ to its main question about NATO's non-expansion.

Lavrov said that the US response offered grounds for serious talks only on ‘secondary topics.’

The US is currently involved in talks with Russia to prevent a war with Ukraine.

Along with other issues. Russia demands NATO not to add Georgia and Ukraine as its new members in the future.
