The Georgian State Security Service says that Russia continues creeping occupation of Georgian territories. 

The agency says that in January of this year, the Russian-controlled  occupation forces made several illegal barriers along the occupation line with breakaway Tskhinvali. 

The State Security Service identified the illegal activity in and around the village of Mejvriskhevi in ​​Gori municipality, as well as along the village of Jariasheni in the same municipality of central Georgia.

In connection with these incidents as well as each case of provocative activity carried out by the Russian occupation forces, a hotline was activated and information was provided to the EUMM in Georgia and the Co-Chairs of the Geneva International Discussions, as well as to international partners, says the agency.

“These issues, along with other identified facts of destructive activities of the occupation forces were raised by the central government on January 20 at the 104th meeting of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism in Ergneti.

“We would also like to clarify that the rumors that the homes of locals are staying behind the occupation line are not true,” said the agency. 

The statement says that the Illegal activities along the occupation line damage the security environment on the ground and complicate the daily life of the population. 

“The Russian Federation bears full responsibility for this,” said the State Security Service. 

Russia currently occupies Georgian regions of Abkhazia an Tskhinvali, 20 percent of the Georgian territory, and is engaged with creeping occupation.
