Parliament Speaker Papuashvili: Zelensky hasn’t requested a speech, ‘destructive opposition’ did this

Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili says that the Ukrainian President and his administration have not requested Volodymyr Zelensky to address Georgian MPs as he has done for the US and German lawmakers, responding to the opposition’s proposal to arrange the event.

Papuashvili says that the United National Movement and the Lelo opposition parties are speaking ‘on behalf of the Ukrainian president,’ which he said is incorrect and ‘aims to spark histeria and cause drastic results for the country.’

"Ukraine has been under Russian aggression for three weeks now. We are all watching this war. What we see is that the opposition, particularly the United National Movement and Lelo ate trying to spark histeria and drag the country into the conflict,” Papuashvili said today.

He stated that ‘as the opposition has destructive goals,’ the ruling Georgian Dream party ‘will not discuss any of their initiatives.’

Papuashvili noted that the opposition ‘does nothing genuine to stand by Ukraine’ and did not even participate in collecting humanitarian aid for the country organized  by the state legislature.

“The opposition is only engaged with making PR from the current developments in Ukraine and is using the issue for its narrow political interests,” Papuashvili said.

The opposition, for its party, is accusing the government and the ruling party of being  ‘pro-Russian.’
