Ruling party MP on country’s neutrality: Georgia’s foreign course is already determined

The ruling Georgian Dream party MP, former parliament speaker Archil Talakvadze says that Georgia’s foreign, Euro-Atlantic course, has already been determined by the country’s authorities and people, responding to reports on the country’s neutral status as reportedly Russia is demanding this from Ukraine.

“We are firm on the country’s foreign aspirations,” Talakvadze said today.

However, he stated that if the West and international partners push forward new security guarantees for Ukraine, the measures would also be required for Georgia.

He stated that Georgia is ready to discuss any formats with international partners which could ensure security guarantees for the country in the long run.

The opposition says that the ruling party is encouraging discussions on neutrality ‘which will mean the return to the Russian orbit,’ adding that ‘Russia never keeps its promises.’
