Russia Today, Sputnik Editor-in-Chief Simonyan opens media center in Georgia’s de facto Abkhazia

Margarita Simonyan, Editor-in-Chief of the Russian state news agencies Russia Today and Sputnik, has visited Georgia’s Russian occupied Abkhazia region and opened a media center there.

She has also met with de facto President Aslan Bzhania and thanked the Abkhaz people “for supporting Russia in the special operation” against Ukraine.

For his part, Bzhania pointed out the possible membership of Abkhazia in the Russian-Belarusian union, to which Simonyan replied that no one in Russia would oppose it.

Georgian regions of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali were recognized as independent states by Russia after the Russia-Georgia 2008 war.

Since then only Venezuela, Nikaraga, Nauru and Syria have joined the illegal move.

The rest of the international community is unanimous that the regions are occupied by Russia.
