Ruling party MP Mdinaradze dubs UNM “party of war, traitors”

The ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party MP Mamuka Mdinaradze says that the United National Movement (UNM) “is not only a war party, but also a party of traitors,” responding to the UNM’s recent refusal to leave for Ukraine along with Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili and GD MPs.

Mdinaradze said that the UNM “is not only trying to drag the country into the Russia-Ukraine war, but also is doing its utmost to damage the country’s image on the international arena and harm the state interests.”

He claimed that the UNM has always been an “anti–state” party, stating that while in office the UNM accused Georgian soldiers of war crimes by hiding the Russian trace.

“All their words and actions have been traitorous. Over the week they have been raising grave accusations against various state institutions, including the state  legislature and its chair. They were trying to portray as if the ruling party did not plan to visit Ukraine. However, when they learnt that Papuashvili was contacting his Ukrainian counterpart and was scheduled to visit the country, they (the UMM) refused to join the delegation,” Mdinaradze said.

He stated that the UNM’s action “once again confirmed that the party has never been interested in supporting Ukraine, their only goal is to damage the country.”

The UNM says that they will leave for Ukraine separately.
