Detective killing one accidentally denied bail

Detective Eric Tsurtsumia, who killed a suspected drug trafficker in an accidental shooting earlier this week, was denied bail by Tbilisi City Court today.

Prosecutor Levan Kutateladze said that Tsurtsumia charged his weapon and tried to arrest 30-year-old Zurab Gvelesiani in Tskneti, near Tbilisi, when the former fired a shot accidentally, leaving the man dead.

Kutateladze said that Tsurtsumia also received injuries during the fight with the deceased suspect as the latter reportedly refused to obey Tsurtsumia’s order.

Tsurtsumia said during the trial that “I will have to live with the grave sin until the end of my days. I am unable to change anything.”
