Former majoritarian deputy charged with sexual misconduct not found guilty

Ilia Jishkariani, a former member of Tbilisi City Assembly, was found not guilty by Tbilisi City Court on charges of sexual misconduct on Friday.

Judge Lia Orkodashvili said that some journalists would give this judgment a political overtone.

She said a guilty verdict was made when there was a sufficient amount of evidence to prove accusations, and if there was the slightest doubt, the case was solved in favor of the defendant.

Jishkariani claimed that the incident back in 2019 aimed to discredit him and  end his political career.

He stated that he was unable to freely come out in public “due to the dirty accusations.”

Jishkariani, a majoritarian MP in Isani City Assembly, was charged on sexual crimes on September 30, 2019 for alleged sexual violence against against Tamta Todadze, a employee in his office.

He was released  on 10,000 GEL bail.
