Imprisoned former President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili, who is currently undergoing treatment in a Tbilisi civilian clinic of Vivamdi, said on Tuesday that he has a spinal trauma and is in need of surgery.

In a letter handed to the opposition member Eka Kherkheulidze today, Saakashvili also said that he required “treatment completely devoid of politics, which is impossible to get in Georgia at this stage.”

“I have a spinal trauma that requires surgery. I have severe tremors and dizziness. I have difficulty bending my limbs. I have difficulty moving and I am mostly in bed,” Saakashvili said.

He stated that MRT confirmed a spinal cord injury which he “most likely received while being transported to Gldani using force.”

The ruling Georgian Dream officials say that Saakashvili is receiving “all medical services he needs,” noting that the former president is “doing his utmost to be transported abroad.”

Georgian PM Irakli Garibashvili said earlier this month that Saakashvili arrived in Georgia in October 2020 after eight years in political exile “to overthrow the government and drag Georgia in Russia’s war in Ukraine.”

He noted that everyone who wished for Saakashvili's transfer abroad, wanted to see a war in Georgia.
