Group of medical experts allowed to see ex-Pres. Saakashvili

A group of independent  medical experts have been allowed to visit imprisoned Former President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili, as he had requested.  Judge Nino Chakhnashvili granted the motion of the third president's lawyers on Wednesday, with the prosecution accepting this.

The lawyers said yesterday that they had been requesting the access of the Centre Empathy medical experts to Saakashvili for several months, claiming that the former president was in a “poor condition.”

Saakashvili, who was arrested in Tbilisi in October 2021 after eight years in political exile, is currently undergoing treatment in a civilian clinic of Vivamedi in Tbilisi as the country’s Justice Ministry had allowed the transfer from Rustavi Prison No.12.

The former president said yesterday that he was in need of a spinal surgery, was unable to move properly and required a “politically unbiased treatment” abroad.
