Minister of Education Grinevich accused the school direction and local authorities in the problem with "pro-Russian textbooks"

Kyiv: Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Liliya Grynevych in an exclusive interview with Front News commented on the situation with textbooks containing "pro-Russian" content and told us about the problem of the textbooks delivery for pupils in the first, fifth and tenth grade. According to her, the Ministry of Education in 2014 has ordered local governments to replace the page in the textbook, and by the 1st of November all schools will be provided with the required number of textbooks copies.

FRONT NEWS - Parents of one of the schools in Ukraine impose a scandal on Russian-language textbooks for the third class, in which "strength, grandeur and power of Russia" are demonstrated. Is this really so?

Liliya Grynevych - The third-class textbook for the Russian language was published in 2013 by the publishing house Genesis, with a print run of just over 58,000 copies. Indeed, on one of the pages of this textbook, namely on the 10th page, there was symbology and aggressive text. In this regard, in 2014, the Ministry of Education of Ukraine decided to replace this page. In any case, this textbook will lose its strength in 2020 when we will reprint all tutorials for the third class. But by the time, all local governments in 2014 received pages that were to be pasted instead of this page to the textbook. Now we find out why exactly these pages have not been glued to this site. In addition, a fully published electronic version of this textbook, which replaces this page and anyone can access this tutorial, has been published.

FNI - Where can I find this electronic version?

L.G. - This link can be found on the website of the publishing house and on the website of our ministry, where the page is corrected. Undoubtedly, such content does not have the right to be used in classes.

FNI - Who is to blame for this and who will bear the punishment?

L.G. - They carelessly took their duties inside the school. After all, they saw that there is such thing. And this was a very broad publicity in 2014. It was reported that the relevant page is being replaced and that there is an electronic version. But still, by this time some textbooks have been preserved in some schools, and now, accordingly, there is a check on why this textbook with page is used in schools.

FNI - But how did the Ministry of Education recommend this textbook?

L.G. - Of course, it is recommended, but with a corrected page. Remove the entire circulation of the textbook because of one page? Two years later, all textbooks for the third grade will be completely reprinted, so it was decided to replace only this page in 2014. It was sent around the whole country. I believe that this is negligence, both of the school direction and of the local self-government leadership, which is the founder of the school. The fact that they did not fulfill their duties, did not change this page, was not attracted attention, because it was widely known that there was an electronic version of this textbook and it could be seen on Internet.

FNI - So, do you argue that the fault lies only with the school management and local government?

L.G. - Yes, of course, because the page was changed in other schools.

FNI - Regarding the situation with textbooks for pupils of the 1st, 5th and 10th grades. By what time schools will be provided with all the necessary textbooks?

L.G. - Last year, all textbooks were delivered before September 1, because only two sets were printed (for the 9th and 8th forms). This year we publish as many as three sets of textbooks for the 1st, 5th and 10th grades. This year, the largest circulation of textbooks for the past decade is printed. It is 18.5 million copies and the Ukrainian printing market can not cope with such a large volume of printing.

5th classes have already received all the textbooks, 1st grade will be available until the 1st of October, they are almost all printed, for 10 classes will be until November 1. However, all textbooks are in the electronic library of textbooks. If students do not have access to "private" gadgets, they can always do it at school.
