Moscow threats to cut off diplomatic ties with US if designated terrorism sponsor

Moscow has threatened to break off diplomatic relations with Washington if the United States of America recognizes Russia as a state sponsoring terrorism, spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Maria Zakharova, said Tuesday.

The Senate on Wednesday unanimously approved a nonbinding resolution calling on Secretary of State Antony Blinken to designate Russia as a terrorism sponsor for its aggressive acctions in Ukraine, Georgia and several other countries.

"Such use of its own legislation, contrary to international law, could force Russia to take responding steps”, Zakharova said.

“We are ready for any scenario of the development of the situation”,she added.

Zakharova claimed that the Senate’s move was “naive”.
