Lithuanian PM on Russo-Georgia 2008 war: appeasement only nourishes the aggressor's appetite

Lithuanian PM on Russo-Georgia 2008 war: appeasement only nourishes the aggressor's appetite

Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė said on Monday that  the approach of appeasement "only nourishes the aggressor's appetite", as Georgia marks the 14th anniversary of Russia-Georgia war today.

“The 11 days’ war was ended with a peace deal but the peace never came, because appeasement only nourishes aggressor's appetite.

Lithuania stands with Georgia in condemning Russian aggression, and in support of its sovereignty and territorial integrity”, Šimonytė said.

Georgian top officials suggested today that the international community’s improper reaction to Russia’s invasion of Georgia back in 2008 pushed the aggressor to invade Ukraine in 2014 and then earlier this year.
