Ruling party openly playing Russian game - UNM’s Melia

The ruling Georgian Dream party is no longer hiding they are playing a Russian game and have become a weapon in the hands of enemy against the interests of the Georgian people, the United National Movement opposition party head, Nika Melia, said Thursday, responding to the recent letter by former ruling party MPs in which they once again accused the US Ambassador to Georgia Kelly Degnan of “backing radical forces in Georgia to drag country into Russia’s war in Ukraine”.

In his remarks, Melia said that the three former MPs of the ruling party, Sozar Subari, Dimitri Khundadze and Mikhail Kavelashvili, who set up a Popular Movement earlier this month “to tell the public the truth”, were voicing the founder of the GD “oligarch Bidzina Ivanishvili” and his “anti-Western rhetoric”.

“This letter [by the former MPs of the GD] was Ivanishvili's undisguised anti-American, anti-Western manifesto and open betrayal of Georgian national interests. The Russian Dream [referring to the GD] and Ivanishvili personally deepen the open confrontation with the United States”, Melia siad.

Melia suggested that Ivanishvili moved to “spoil” the US -Georgia relations to benefit Russia.

“Every attack on the United States is actually a step towards Russia and a betrayal of Georgians! Ivanishvili is closing Georgia's door to Europe!” Melia said.

He stated that the Georgian people would not allow Ivanishvili and the Georgian Dream to “derail the country and harm its future”.
