Fire still raging in Borjomi forests of Georgia

Fires are still raging in the forests of Georgia’s central-western Borjomi Municipality, which erupted last friday.

The Georgian Interior Ministry said on Friday that several sources were localized, but active sources of the blaze still remained, with more than 1,300 professionals, using more than 130 fire engines and seven helicopters trying to put out the blaze.

Three of the seven helicopters were sent by Turkey earlier this week as part of the internal aid.

The Ministry claimed that strong winds created problems in the fire-extinguishing works, noting that there were “no threats” for now the fire to spread to populated areas.
