The ruling Georgian Dream party has plans to initiate a bill for the upcoming parliamentary elections in 2024 to be held electronically in all cities and large settlements, the chairman of the party, Irakli Kobakhidze, said on Tuesday. 

"Electronic voting will finally strengthen the public's trust in vote counting, eliminate the problem of imbalances in election procedures, put an end to speculation about so-called carousels, ensure that the votes of more than 70 percent of voters are counted and announced within minutes of the end of the voting process. It will also remove exit polls and parallel counting of votes. problems related to forgery," said Kobakhidze.

The revision of the Election Code is one of the 12 recommendations set by the European Union in June for Georgia’s membership candidate status. 

"The working group will develop a package of draft laws in the near future, which will essentially be based on the recommendations of the OSCE/ODIHR and the topics discussed with the involvement of political parties and civil society representatives in the working group...

"Our initiative will be given the shape of a draft law in the coming days, after which, based on consultations with the Government of Georgia, election authorities and experts in the field, practical steps will be taken to equip the polling stations with voting devices," said Kobakhidze.

In Georgia, elections were held in several polling stations using electronic systems. 

Among them - 2020 parliamentary elections in Tbilisi, in Krtsanisi district and in 2021 in several election precincts in Batumi.
