Lado Kakhadze, an MP of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Friday said that a big number of Georgians went to Turkey for treatment as it was “in fashion”, dismissing the allegations of the opposition MP that the Georgian medical system was unable to ensure quality services. 

"Turkey's healthcare system was not very good in 2003, but with the right reforms, it has reached the highest standards. Why do we not consider the example and experience of Turkey? How long can we be afraid of getting sick", said the opposition MP Levan Ioseliani. 

In response, Kakhadze said that people from 73 countries “come to Georgia to receive medical education, and with the education received here, work in 130 countries”.

"I belong to that generation, when Moscow was in fashion. This is a Georgian phenomenon [to go abroad for treatment]. Now Turkey is in fashion. Before that, Austria was in fashion, and before that, France”, Kakhadze said.
