UNM members demanding “megic” from their head over Saakashvili - political analyst Khukhashvili

The members of the United National Movement - the largest opposition group in the country - are actually demanding magic from their head Nika Melia over the currently imprisoned former president and the founder of the party, Mikheil Saakashvili, political analyst Gia Khukhashvili told Front News on Thursday, in comments of the recent demands by several of the UNM members over elections for the new leadership of the party.

The analyst said that the allegations of the fellow members of the party towards Melia - that he did not take proper actions for the release of Saakashvili - meant to demand a “magic stick” from him.

He suggested that the current crisis inside the party could be resolved by inter-party elections.

Melia, who on Wednesday criticized his party members for the “unexpected” briefing during the day over the need of the elections, claimed that he had proposed the race a month ago and that the UNM politicians who have raised the topic this week were “well-aware” of that.

After expressing his readiness for the elections, Melia, who took over the chairmanship in 2020, said that time would show the “real motivation” of his party members for holding the briefing.
