Italy, Georgia issue postage stamps to mark 30th anniversary of ties

Two anniversary postage stamps have been printed and put into circulation by relevant agencies of Italy and Georgia to mark the 30th anniversary since the establishment of diplomatic ties this year, the Italian embassy said.

Highlighting “excellent bilateral relations”, the embassy stressed the presentation of the stamps, both depicting a Cathedral of Bichvinta painted by the Italian monk Cristoforo Castelli, would be held at the National Library of the Parliament of Georgia on Tuesday at 12 p.m.

The embassy said choosing the picture for the stamps by both countries was not “random”, and the move on the one hand pointed to centuries-long ties between the countries, and on the other hand the efforts of Italian nationals to introduce Georgia to Europe.

Enrico Valvo, the Italian ambassador to Georgia, said the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Italy and Georgia “gives us the opportunity to look not only at the path we have walked together over the last three decades, but also at the centuries-old tradition of friendship and mutual cooperation”.
