Archimandrite burnt in an attempt to save a man out of shock

Archimandrite Joseph, who rushed into a cell of Gelati monastery on Monday in a bid to put out a fire and reportedly save a guest, is out of shock, the Patriarchate press office said on Tuesday.

The Patriarchate said a nearby bed caught fire from a fireplace in the guest room of the Gelati Fathers Monastery in the country’s west, noting the guest was out of the room at that time.

Archimandrite Joseph, who reportedly thought the guest was still there, had entered the room to extinguish fire.

The clergyman has more than 44 percent of his body burnt.
