Ruling party head questions TI Georgia “democracy” for having same chair for 13 years

Irakli Kobakhidze, the head of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Wednesday questioned democracy of the Transparency International Georgia branch, saying “how it could be democratic” when having had the “same chairperson” over the past 13 years.

“After Leonid Brezhnev [a Soviet politician], no one has had such a long leadership experience”, Kobakhidze said in reference to Eka Gigauri, the chair of TI Georgia, in comments on the organization’s event on internal democracy.
