My key task is to be your faithful servant - ex-Pres. Saakashvili addresses public

Mikheil Saakashvili, the currently imprisoned former President of Georgia, on Tuesday addressed the public in his social media post and claimed his major task was to be a “faithful servant” of the country’s population.

The post came following the announcement by Sophio Japaridze, his representative from the United National Movement opposition party on Monday, who said she launched an election campaign across the country on behalf of Saakashvili, a citizen of Ukraine.

“We have very difficult processes ahead of us, that's why we need to stand together like never before. Our country is facing great challenges, it is impossible to overcome all this and build a modern Georgia without you, their majesty, the Georgian people”, Saakashvili said.

He added “I am ready to listen to your problems, share your ideas and plans. Together, with everyone's involvement, we should build a successful Georgia, where people will return, not flee”.

The former official also claimed “many talented and successful citizens” remained silent and urged them to speak out their views.

“Nothing is impossible for us! Our best days are ahead. Victory is near!" Saakashvili wrote.

The third president was arrested in October 2021 on his clandestine return to the country after eight years, and is now serving his six year term for abuse of power while in office in two separate cases.

The Georgian Dream authorities claim Saakashvili had been “sent” from Ukraine to Georgia - where the latter chaired the executive committee of the Ukrainian national reforms council - to spark unrest in the country, overthrow the Government and later “drag” Georgia into the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.
