Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan, Hikmet Hajiyev, underscored the imperative need for a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan during the 2024 Diplomatic Forum "Peace, Development, and Connections in the South Caucasus" in Antalya.

"Peace is a matter of paramount importance for both Baku and Yerevan, transcending beyond the confines of distant capitals such as Paris or Brussels. It is imperative that the two nations engage in dialogue and sign a peace treaty”, he said. 

Highlighting the necessity for genuine commitment to peace, Hajiyev emphasized the importance of transforming the current boundary between Armenia and Azerbaijan into a tangible border rather than a zone of conflict.

"We advocate for the establishment of a clear, defined border between Armenia and Azerbaijan, fostering stability and cooperation in the region," the official said. 

Hajiyev also raised concerns regarding the European Union's monitoring mission in Armenia, questioning its alignment with the goals of peace and stability in the South Caucasus.

He further emphasized the need to discontinue militarization programs, stressing Azerbaijan's aspiration for the South Caucasus to evolve into a region characterized by transformation, peace, security, and collaboration.
