Georgia’s opposition calls for mass Protest on November 24

Giorgi Vashadze, a leader of Georgia’s United National Movement party, has announced a major protest scheduled by the opposition for the evening of November 24. The demonstration will begin at 9:00 PM on Republic Square in Tbilisi, with additional groups joining from various regions, forming a coordinated movement toward the Georgian Parliament.

“We will gather on Republic Square and march to Parliament, where we will remain overnight. From western and eastern regions, cars will converge on Republic and Liberty Squares, organizing a two-hour procession throughout Tbilisi to encourage more citizens to join us on Rustaveli Avenue,” Vashadze said during the announcement.

The demonstration is part of a broader push by Georgia’s pro-European opposition against what they describe as the authoritarian tendencies of the ruling Georgian Dream party. The opposition has labeled any planned counter-gatherings by the ruling party as illegitimate and unrepresentative of Georgia’s democratic aspirations.

Protesters aim to underscore their commitment to Georgia’s European future and express discontent with perceived government alignment with Russian interests. The protest is expected to escalate the ongoing political standoff in Georgia, with opposition leaders promising to stay on Rustaveli Avenue overnight to emphasize their demands.
