Kobakhidze rejected Wilson's criticism of Georgia's decision to elevate relations with Beijing to the level of a comprehensive strategic partnership

Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has dismissed criticism from US Congressman Joe Wilson regarding Georgia's deepening ties with China, describing the Republican lawmaker as "not a serious person".

Speaking to journalists Tuesday, Kobakhidze rejected Wilson's criticism of Georgia's decision to elevate relations with Beijing to the level of a comprehensive strategic partnership.

"Joe Wilson is not a serious person in any respect and, I think, nobody takes him seriously, including in his own country," Kobakhidze said.

The prime minister argued that Wilson's position contradicts the policies of US President Donald Trump, whom he said is seeking to strengthen both political and economic relations with China.
