Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has congratulated Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on his election victory, describing Georgia-Armenia relations under Pashinyan's leadership as being at an unprecedented level.
Speaking at a government briefing, Kobakhidze said he had spoken with Pashinyan shortly after the election results became clear and expressed hope that bilateral ties would continue to deepen over the next four years.
"I immediately had a phone conversation with Nikol Pashinyan and congratulated him on his victory in the election," Kobakhidze said.
He added that he had expressed his desire for the two governments to continue working actively to strengthen cooperation between Georgia and Armenia.
According to Kobakhidze, Pashinyan has played a particularly important role in the development of relations between the two neighbouring countries.
"Under Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's leadership, Georgia-Armenia relations are at an unprecedentedly high level, and I am very pleased that these relations will continue," he said.
Kobakhidze also thanked the Armenian leader for his contribution to deepening bilateral ties.
Asked about assessments of the Armenian election by international observer missions, the Georgian prime minister declined to comment on the substance of their findings, saying such matters were for observer organisations and the country concerned.
However, he added that what he described as "double standards" within the European bureaucracy were a common phenomenon.
