Georgia and China have elevated their relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has announced, describing the move as a new stage in bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
Speaking on Tuesday, Kobakhidze said the agreement follows the strategic partnership established approximately three years ago and reflects a significant deepening of political and economic ties.
"Today is a very important day. About three years ago, a strategic partnership agreement was signed between Georgia and China, and now we are moving to the next stage - a comprehensive strategic partnership," Kobakhidze said.
He claimed the previous agreement led to tangible progress in relations, including the introduction of mutual visa-free travel, the launch of direct flights and expanding connectivity between the two countries.
The PM also pointed to growing trade and economic cooperation, saying the strategic partnership had delivered concrete results for both sides.
Kobakhidze said the newly signed comprehensive strategic partnership agreement is expected to further strengthen political, economic and transport links between Georgia and China and generate additional opportunities for cooperation.
He described the agreement as a major step forward in the development of Georgian-Chinese relations.
