The Russian Navy has commenced extensive military manoeuvres in the Pacific Ocean in conjunction with President Vladimir Putin’s visit to North Korea. The exercises involve 40 ships and submarines, as well as 20 aeroplanes and helicopters, and will continue until the end of June. These activities are taking place in the Pacific Ocean, the Sea of Japan, and the Sea of Okhotsk.
Putin is visiting Pyongyang for a two-day trip at the invitation of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. Previously, Putin expressed gratitude to the Pyongyang regime for its support during the conflict in Ukraine. In an article published by the North Korean news agency KCNA, it was emphasised that both nations aim to further develop their partnership. During the visit, discussions will include the enhancement of military cooperation.
According to Western sources, isolated North Korea is supplying Russia with ammunition, a move that violates UN sanctions.
This marks Putin’s first visit to North Korea in 24 years, with previous meetings between Putin and North Korean officials having taken place in Russia.
