Norwegian ambassador“dismayed” by adoption of foreign agents bill with its 1st reading

Helene Sand Andresen, the ambassador of Norway to Georgia, on Wednesday said she was  “dismayed” by the adoption of the foreign agents bill with its first reading by the Georgian parliament on Tuesday.

The diplomat tweeted the bill was seen to “stigmatize civil society and media” in the country and contravene European values and principles.

She said it could also trigger “devastating effect on work supporting all people of Georgia” and urged the country’s authorities to act “for democracy and respect for the right of peaceful protest”.

Police on Tuesday dispersed peaceful demonstrators in central Tbilisi protesting the adoption of the bill with its first reading.
