October 26 ‘defining day’ for Georgia’s path toward Europe, US Congressman Joe Wilson

US Congressman Joe Wilson has called October 26 general elections in Georgia “defining” on the country’s European integration path.

Wilson, who chairs the US Helsinki Commission, has voiced firm support for Georgia’s pursuit of sovereignty, democratic values, and strengthened ties with Europe, emphasizing America’s solidarity with the Georgian people.

“October 26 is a defining day for extraordinary Georgian people. The Georgian people are clear, they want a government that respects their choice to continue close ties with dynamic European countries, country sovereignty, transparency, and accountability,” said Wilson, adding that Georgia has firmly rejected “the efforts of war criminal Putin to take away their hard-won independence, trying to recreate the failed Soviet Union.”

Wilson further highlighted Georgia’s commitment to principles of freedom, democracy, and self-determination, likening these shared values to the foundation of the strong friendship between Georgia and the United States.

“America stands by the Georgian people,” he affirmed, expressing that the US was resolute in supporting Georgia’s independence and democratic ambitions.
