Oncology patients petition President to ease treatment cost burden

Oncology patients in Georgia are urging President Salome Zourabichvili to address the financial strain of cancer treatment.

Led by Gvantsa Apkhaidze, founder of Union for Life, they seek to abolish the 25,000 GEL limit on treatment expenses.

Despite their efforts, the government has yet to respond, the demonstrators said.

The patients are also seeking a meeting with the president to discuss their concerns directly.

“We urge the President to meet with us and to raise our plight with the government. Following yesterday’s rally, we have yet to receive any communication from relevant authorities. We implore the president to convey our urgent plea to the government for a prompt response. Time is of the essence for these individuals; there is no room for delay”, Apkhaidze said.

They stress the urgency of the situation, highlighting the “immediate need” for action to alleviate the financial burden on cancer patients.
