Levan Bezhashvili, one of the leaders of the United National Movement party, has called on Interior Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri to take decisive action against criminal groups allegedly intimidating citizens and disrupting voting across Tbilisi and various regions. According to Bezhashvili, police have been largely unresponsive to incidents of violence, and the emergency hotline 112 is reportedly failing to respond to calls for assistance.
“This is not a fair electoral environment…We are witnessing organized assaults by groups associated with the ruling party. The silence and inaction from law enforcement, particularly in incidents like the one involving MP Levan Khabeishvili, where police allowed masked individuals to evade accountability, only underscores the issue,” the opposition member stressed.
Bezhashvili emphasized the significance of today’s election, calling it a “defining moment for Georgia’s European future” and urged citizens to stand firm. He appealed to Minister Gomelauri, urging him to honor his role by taking immediate and effective action against the organized groups and restoring a fair and safe voting environment.
The opposition leader commended citizens for their commitment to voting despite challenges, encouraging continued participation to secure what he called a “victory for European Georgia.”
