Opposition leader outlines “formula for victory” against Georgian Dream Government

Giorgi Vashadze, a leading figure in the opposition party Unity – National Movement, has called for increased unity, sustained protests, and intensified international pressure on the Georgian Dream government as part of what he describes as the “formula for victory.”

Speaking on the ongoing political crisis in Georgia, Vashadze emphasized the need for a multifaceted strategy to challenge the current regime and push for democratic reforms.

Vashadze underlined the importance of collaboration among opposition forces, civil society, and the fifth President Salome Zourabichvili, who has become a prominent critic of the ruling party.

He also stressed the necessity of amplifying public protests, which have been a defining feature of Georgia’s political landscape in recent weeks. Demonstrations erupted following the government’s refusal to prioritize European Union accession negotiations before 2028 and allegations of electoral fraud in the 2024 parliamentary elections.

Vashadze highlighted the role of international pressure, particularly through sanctions, as a critical component of his strategy. “This is how I see the formula for victory – more unity, more protests, more pressure from abroad through sanctions and other means,” he said, urging Georgia’s Western allies to take stronger measures against the Georgian Dream government.
