Mamuka Khazaradze, leader of the Strong Georgia coalition, criticized ruling Georgian Dream’s presidential nominee Mikheil Kavelashvili, accusing him of serving Russian interests. Khazaradze described the nomination as part of a broader strategy to undermine Georgia’s sovereignty and democratic institutions under Bidzina Ivanishvili’s leadership.
“Today, the Russian forces, led by Bidzina Ivanishvili in Georgia, have taken another illegal step after manipulating and seizing the elections—following the formation of an illegitimate parliament, they have now seized the institution of the presidency,” Khazaradze wrote on Facebook.
He refrained from discussing Kavelashvili’s personal qualities or capabilities, suggesting the public should assess them. However, he emphasized that Kavelashvili’s political career is marked by absolute loyalty to Russia, accusing him of being part of a broader effort to distance Georgia from its European aspirations and integrate it into Russia’s sphere of influence.
“I will not comment on Kavelashvili’s personal traits or his skills, which are unsuitable for the position of president—let the public judge that. I will only say one thing: the only thing he is remembered for by the public is his unconditional obedience to Russia and advocating the so-called ‘Russian law,’ of which he and his political group are the authors and staunch defenders,” Khazaradze stressed.
The opposition leader vowed not to collaborate with forces he perceives as undermining Georgia’s sovereignty. He reaffirmed his commitment to counteracting what he called a “treacherous plan” and urged resistance to policies that he argued have led to mass emigration and weakened the nation.
Expressing confidence in the resilience of the Georgian people, Khazaradze concluded by advocating for Georgia’s European path, which he described as a national choice aligned with the country’s aspirations for democracy and independence.
