Khatia Dekanoidze, the Deputy Chairwoman of the National Committee of the United National Movement, has accused the Georgian government of “intentionally obstructing” the country’s European integration process. She described this as a “clear manifestation of Bidzina Ivanishvili’s alignment with Russian interests”.
In a recent statement, Dekanoidze pointed to remarks from European Commission members who highlighted the government’s actions.
“Georgia’s European integration process has frozen, and this reflects the specific expression of Ivanishvili’s Russian government,” she said.
Dekanoidze referenced the annual report from the European Commission on EU enlargement, released on October 30, which indicated that Georgia’s integration efforts have been effectively halted. She underscored the significance of the European Commission Ambassador in Georgia, who stated that the integration process would remain suspended due to the current government’s policies.
The Deputy Chairwoman specifically cited concerns over electoral integrity, noting, “The elections have faced extensive falsifications, violations of secrecy, and various irresponsible statements from the government. These factors clearly reveal the government’s intention to suspend Georgia’s European integration process.”
