Sanctions are delayed, but the UK understands the threat posed by Russia and recognizes that Georgia’s situation is not merely an internal political issue but part of a broader Russian hybrid war, said Elene Khoshtaria, a leader of the Coalition for Change.
According to Khoshtaria, discussions on sanctions are ongoing in the UK.
“Sanctions are taking time. If Georgia’s issue were the only global problem, decisions might have been made faster. More needs to be done, which is why we traveled to the UK. The foundation for action is solid, and sanctions are indeed under consideration. I believe a decision will be made soon,” she stated.
She emphasized that the UK, along with the US and the EU, has significant potential to counter the Russian regime.
“The UK understands Russia’s threat and acknowledges that Georgia’s situation is not just a domestic political matter but part of Russia’s hybrid warfare. As a result, sanctions are certainly being discussed. I cannot specify against whom or when they will be imposed, but the UK, together with the US and the EU, has the capacity to weaken this Russian regime. Our task as the opposition is to engage with countries that have this potential. There is significant work ahead, and I have high hopes for cooperation with the President,” Khoshtaria added.
