Opposition member accuses Georgia’s ruling party of ‘12-year policy of division, manipulation’

Zurab Chiaberashvili, Secretary of Foreign Affairs for the United National Movement opposition party, on Wednesday accused the ruling Georgian Dream of allegedly engaging in a “12-year-long policy of division, confrontation, and hatred”.

In his press comments, Chiaberashvili claimed the GD’s primary goals were to maintain power and enrich its members, regardless of the consequences.

“The GD manipulates our historical values and traditions to retain power and accumulate wealth. This comes at the expense of the people and national interests. Our historical heritage, which is irrelevant to their goals, has been completely abandoned. This is the true face of the Georgian Dream, and the choice before the nation is clear,” Chiaberashvili stressed ahead of the October 26 general elections.

He further asserted the current government’s actions had caused “significant harm” to the country’s historical legacy and warned of the party’s tactics solely aimed at maintaining its grip on power.
