Tamar Kordzaia, a member of the opposition United National Movement (UNM), has expressed her disappointment in Georgia’s Constitutional Court over its recent decision concerning the controversial Law on Transparency of Foreign Influence, accusing it of aligning with Russia’s judicial model.
Kordzaia stressed that the court failed to stand up for state interests, stating that Georgian citizens will defend the country, its democracy, and its European future during October 26 parliamentary elections.
“Georgia’s Constitutional Court has taken the same path as Russia’s Constitutional Court. The judges of the Georgian court have shared the fate of the 84 MPs who traitorously passed the so-called Russian law, officially named the Law on Transparency, under orders from Russia,” Kordzaia stated.
She lamented the court’s inability to suspend the law’s implementation, which she sees as harmful to the country’s European prospects and civil society. Kordzaia emphasized that the judges failed to defend national interests, but expressed confidence that Georgian citizens would safeguard the nation’s democracy and its European aspirations.
Georgia’s Constitutional Court recently declined to suspend the controversial Law on Transparency of Foreign Influence, allowing the case to proceed for substantive review.
