Opposition member criticizes salary raise for Georgian Dream MPs amid modest pension increase

Giorgi Kapanadze, a member of the political council of the United National Movement, has criticized the recent disparity in salary and pension increases in Georgia.

According to Kapanadze, starting in January, pensions were raised by only 35 GEL, while the salaries of “non-legitimate” Georgian Dream MPs increased by 7,000 GEL.

“These non-legitimate deputies mock and humiliate pensioners. On one hand, they increase their own salaries with the very money of these pensioners, and on the other, they leave pensioners to choose between buying food or medication,” Kapanadze stated.

He went on to accuse the ruling party parliamentarians of prioritizing personal financial gain, claiming they are faced with decisions between “high salaries and even higher salaries,” unlike pensioners who struggle with basic necessities.
