A car of a member of the opposition United National Movement (UNM), Beso Kartvelishvili, was vandalized in Ambrolauri, Racha region, which the party describes as a politically motivated attack. The information was made public by UNM’s Deputy Secretary General, Irakli Pavlenishvili, who blamed the ruling party Georgian Dream (GD) for fostering an environment of violence and intimidation ahead of the October 26 elections.
Pavlenishvili explained that Kartvelishvili discovered his vehicle damaged, with the tires deflated, rendering it unusable. He stated that Kartvelishvili uses the car to travel with fellow party members across the Racha region, meeting with local residents and discussing the UNM’s plans for the future.
“This is the true face of Ivanishvili and his gang,” Pavlenishvili said, referring to Bidzina Ivanishvili, the founder and Honorary Head of the GD party. “They are not interested in creating a peaceful, fair, and equal electoral environment, which is why they encourage such acts of vandalism.”
Pavlenishvili also expressed skepticism about the investigation, despite police opening a case and recognizing Kartvelishvili as the victim.
“We all know that these thugs never face justice,” he added. However, he expressed confidence in UNM’s victory in the upcoming elections, vowing to put an end to the ruling party’s actions.
UNM has frequently accused the ruling party of using intimidation and violence to undermine their electoral efforts, claims the ruling party has repeatedly denied.
