Georgian Patrliament Speaker, Shalva Papuashvili, has commented on the recent increase in statements regarding the country, particularly in the context of foreign actors speaking on behalf of the Georgian people, calling them „undemocratic.” He emphasized that these actors claimed that the Georgian population opposed the foreign influence transparency law but the recent parliamentary elections have demonstrated otherwise.
“Foreign actors were claiming to speak for the Georgian people, suggesting that they were against the ‘Transparency Law.’ However, the elections confirmed that the people actually support transparency regarding foreign funding,” he stated.
The Parliament Speaker highlighted that the elections had a referendum-like nature, showcasing the Georgian people’s true desires.
“The people have clearly expressed their support for transparency in foreign funding. This indicates a need to reassess and recalibrate foreign perceptions of Georgia and its society, which may have been based on misconceptions,” he saaid.
Papuashvili noted that the outcomes of the elections revealed public approval of the government’s decisions over the past four years, as well as support for its future plans. He concluded by stating, “The Georgian people have shown that they appreciate the government’s actions and the vision it has for the future.”
