Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze declared that the Georgian Dream (GD) has delivered 12 years of unprecedented peace and stability, urging the Georgian people to support the ruling party in the critical October 26 elections.
Speaking at a campaign event in Kutaisi, Kobakhidze emphasized that the peaceful and stable environment created under Georgian Dream’s leadership stands in sharp contrast to the tumultuous years before 2012, which, according to him, were marked by war, political repression, and economic instability.
In his address to the locals, the prime minister framed the upcoming election as more than just a political contest, calling it a referendum on the country’s future. He stressed the importance of continuing on the path of development that the Georgian Dream has established and warned of the risks posed by the opposition, particularly the United National Movement (UNM), the party that ruled before GD. According to Kobakhidze, the opposition’s return to power would threaten the peace Georgia has achieved and could destabilize the nation.
Kobakhidze appealed to the Georgian electorate by highlighting the dangers of a return to power by the UNM and its allies, claiming they would drag the country into war and political chaos. “The Georgian people will once again reject war and choose peace,” he declared.
He also emphasized a moral dimension to the election, urging voters to reject „immoral propaganda” and choose traditional values that reflect Georgia’s cultural heritage. According to him, the GD embodies these values and has consistently worked to strengthen the nation’s sovereignty and independence.
The prime minister pointed out that during the nine years of UNM rule, Georgia experienced significant territorial losses and other crises, citing the 2008 Russian-Georgian war and the subsequent occupation of 20% of Georgia’s territory.
“Everyone remembers the situation in Georgia before 2012. Murder and torture of people, robbery of businesses, seizure of television stations, election rigging, war, and the loss of 20% of the country’s territories. This is just a partial list of the crimes committed by foreign agents and their bloody regime over nine years in our country,” Kobakhidze said, referencing the authoritarian governance under UNM.
In contrast, he claimed that since Georgian Dream came to power in 2012, the country has enjoyed „uninterrupted peace, economic growth, and a path towards European integration.” He credited Bidzina Ivanishvili, the party’s founder and honorary chairman, with liberating the nation from the previous regime and laying the groundwork for a peaceful, democratic society.
Kobakhidze listed several accomplishments achieved under Georgian Dream’s rule, attributing them to the 12 years of peace. He noted improvements in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and foreign relations, with a particular focus on deepening ties with Europe. “Only through peace can we continue to develop as a nation,” he emphasized, adding that Georgian Dream’s leadership has positioned the country for long-term success and integration with the West.
“That’s why, on October 26, we must all come together and color number 41, and color our country. We must choose the Georgian Dream and choose a bright future for Georgia,” he said.
