Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, on Friday reiterated an “ambitious goal” for Georgia to become a member of the European Union by 2030. Speaking at a reception in Berlin dedicated to Georgia’s Independence Day, he highlighted the significance of this objective for the nation’s future.
“Today, our children performed the EU anthem in an extraordinary way, and I am confident that their future lies within the European Union,” Kobakhidze said, amid widespread criticism by the EU and the country’s partners over the adoption of the “Russian style” foreign “agents’ law” by Georgia’s ruling party last month.
“We have set a very important national task, which is to join the European Union. Our goal is for Georgia to become a member state by 2030”, he added.
The PM also emphasised the significance of discussing Georgia’s independence with international allies.
“These children will definitely live in a united Georgia that is a member state of the European Union, and this will happen very soon,” he added.
“It is crucial to talk about Georgia’s independence with our friends today and to celebrate this important day together.”
