Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze emphasized the untouchable status of police officers, asserting that they symbolize the strength and authority of the state. Speaking to journalists, he condemned any violent actions against law enforcement as a grave criminal offense.
“Everyone must understand that a police officer is untouchable. They represent the state and its resilience. Any action against them, especially against high-ranking police officials, is utterly unacceptable. Moreover, such actions constitute a serious criminal offense under the law,” Kobakhidze stated.
He underscored the state’s obligation to respond appropriately in such cases.
“The state is required to take all necessary measures within its competence to address incidents like this. Everything is clear as day. The act in question is not only unacceptable but also a punishable offense. It is now up to the courts to deliberate, but the evidence is indisputable,” the Prime Minister added.
Referring to video footage of the recent Batumi incident, Kobakhidze dismissed claims of editing or manipulation, saying, “There is no question of any montage here. Everything is plainly visible in the footage—how a so-called journalist physically assaults a police officer. In reality, this individual is not a journalist but a political activist. However, this distinction is irrelevant to the investigation. What matters is that there are clear indications of a crime, and it is up to the court to deliver a verdict.”
