PM Kobakhidze thanks Hungary and Slovakia for blocking EU sanctions package

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has expressed gratitude to the governments of Hungary and Slovakia for blocking an EU sanctions package. In an interview with Georgia’s First Channel, he praised these two countries for their decision, calling them Georgia’s friends.

“I want to thank the governments of Hungary and Slovakia, our friendly nations, for their decision to block the EU sanctions package. Despite numerous challenges and the problems created by the previous US administration and European officials—who, in reality, represent the deep state and the global war party—our country continues to defend its positions, protect national interests, and develop its economy,” Kobakhidze stated.

The Prime Minister also accused foreign actors of attempting to stage revolutions in Georgia multiple times over the past four years. He referenced failed revolutionary attempts in June 2022, as well as in the spring and late 2024, linking these events to external influence.

He further claimed that the newly elected US administration had confirmed American institutions were involved in financing revolutions in foreign countries, including Georgia. According to him, President Donald Trump’s recent statements validated Georgia’s concerns about external interference.

Kobakhidze emphasized that Georgia must protect its sovereignty from all external forces, whether they are adversaries or allies.
