Polish PM warns of global conflict risk amid intensifying war in Ukraine

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has warned of a “real and serious” threat of global conflict, citing recent developments in the war between Russia and Ukraine. Tusk made the remarks during a congress of the Polish Teachers’ Union, framing the current situation as “historically significant” for Poland, Europe, and the world.

“The war in the East is entering a decisive phase,” Tusk said. “None of us knows how this conflict will end, but we know that it is now taking very dramatic measures. The events of the last few dozen hours show that this threat is really serious and real in terms of global conflict.”

Tusk’s comments come in the wake of Russia’s announcement that it used a new medium-range Oreshnik ballistic missile in an attack on the Ukrainian city of Dnipro. Ukrainian forces, meanwhile, reportedly deployed ATACMS and Storm Shadow missiles in strikes on Russian territory. Russian President Vladimir Putin vowed a decisive response to the escalation.

The intensifying exchanges have raised concerns about the broader implications of the conflict, with Tusk emphasizing the importance of global vigilance during what he described as a historic and pivotal moment.
