Polish president reiterates “unwavering” support for Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic goals

Polish president Andrzej Duda on Monday reiterated his country’s support for Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic goals after the meeting with his Georgian counterpart Salome Zourabichvili in Warsaw.

“I once again reaffirmed Poland’s unwavering support for Georgia’s European and North Atlantic aspirations. We hope that in the not too distant future, Georgia will receive the status of a full-fledged member of the EU, as well as become a member of NATO”, Duda said.

Zourabichvili said Poland “has always supported” Georgia and stressed that the country “correctly evaluated” the threats of the Russia-Georgia 2008, when the international community failed to appropriately respond to the conflict and prevent future threats [for Ukraine].

She also said her country could “rely on” Poland’s support during the obtaining process of the EU membership candidate status.

Praising the fight of Ukrainians “for freedom”, the Georgian president highlighted that the country’s efforts accelerated Georgia’s EU integration process.

Georgia applied for EU membership in March, following Ukraine and Moldova, after Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24.
