Political scientist predicts imminent system collapse in Georgia

Political scientist Gia Khukhashvili has made a prediction about the current state of Georgia’s political system, suggesting that its collapse will become evident within the next two to three weeks.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Khukhashvili described the situation as tense and claimed that the system is already shifting into “sabotage mode,” which he predicted will further exacerbate its condition.

According to Khukhashvili, much of the instability stems from the position of Bidzina Ivanishvili, the billionaire and founder of the ruling Georgian Dream party. He characterized Ivanishvili as a man gripped by fear, particularly of Russia, which Khukhashvili said poses a unique threat.

“Bidzina lives in a world of fears,” Khukhashvili stated. “He is afraid of us, afraid of the West, but most of all, he is afraid of Russia because it has given him certain guarantees that he now cannot fulfill. Expelling Russia is a significant danger for him, and he knows that. He would gladly distance himself from Russia, but he does not believe he has the maneuvering space. Russia punishes differently—while the West uses sanctions, Putin responds with murder.”

Khukhashvili also highlighted a growing disconnect within the political system, noting that professionals within the structure were increasingly questioning Ivanishvili’s ability to safeguard their interests.

“They are asking themselves, ‘How can this man look after us when he cannot even look after himself?’” he said.

As a result, Khukhashvili believes that the collapse of the system is inevitable and has already begun. He warned that the coming weeks will reveal the full extent of the crisis, with the system becoming further destabilized. “The situation is tense, and in the next two to three weeks, the collapse of the system will become clear,” Khukhashvili said. “Its situation will worsen as it shifts into sabotage mode.”
