With just 19 days remaining until Georgia’s elections, President Salome Zourabichvili has called on citizens to participate and safeguard the nation’s European future and independence. Speaking at a briefing on Monday, Zourabichvili emphasized the critical nature of the upcoming vote, describing it as one of the most decisive moments in the country’s recent history.
“These elections are a defining moment for Georgia, one we haven’t faced in our modern history,” Zourabichvili said, urging the public to mobilize and ensure their votes are protected.
The President directed special attention to the Georgian diaspora, which has recently shown increased engagement in voter registration despite initial challenges. She called on the Central Election Commission (CEC), consulates, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to ensure polling stations abroad operate smoothly on election day.
“I want to remind all institutions that they are responsible for resolving any issues that arise with polling locations, particularly abroad. If additional space is needed, it must be arranged,” she stressed.
Zourabichvili encouraged every citizen to prepare for election day and protect their votes. She also appealed to those whose relatives may not have been able to register, emphasizing that everyone has to cast their vote on behalf of others.
Addressing the youth, Zourabichvili said: “You are the future of our country, and the future will be decided on October 26. It is your responsibility to defend your votes.”
The President highlighted the role of election observers, urging citizens to participate in training programs offered by organizations like Chemi Khma (My Voice), which coordinates efforts between various non-governmental organizations to train observers.
“The key is mobilization and turning out to vote. The best way to defeat electoral fraud is through high voter turnout,” Zourabichvili added. “It is our duty to vote and defend Georgia’s European future and independence.”
On election day, a coordination platform will be set up at the presidential palace to monitor the entire process and celebrate victory together, the President concluded.
