President Zourabichvili warns of possible impeachment and imprisonment if ruling party wins elections

In Thursday’s press briefing, President Salome Zourabichvili expressed concerns that if the ruling party, Georgian Dream, wins the upcoming elections, it could lead to her impeachment and potential imprisonment.

“If Georgian Dream wins, there will likely be an impeachment process against me, and I might end up in prison,” Zourabichvili stated.

She also addressed the current political climate in Georgia, emphasizing the nation’s desire for a European future.

“Georgia is a country that seeks a European future, and nothing can stand in the way of the people’s will. The videos circulating that suggest if Georgian Dream does not win, there will be war are intimidation tactics used before the elections and attempts to exert pressure on voters. No country would respond to the question of whether they fear war with a simple ‘no,” she said.

Zourabichvili dismissed the notion that a violent scenario could unfold, asserting that Georgia would vote peacefully and continue on its path toward Europe. “There is no scenario where this will happen. Georgia will vote peacefully and return to its European path peacefully,” the President added.

When asked about the fate of former President Mikheil Saakashvili, Zourabichvili indicated that this matter would be entirely in the hands
of the next parliament and government.

“I believe that everything will rest in the hands of the next parliament and the new government,” she concluded.
